I John 3:8b says "The Son of God appeared for this purpose, that He might destroy the works of the devil." The word "destroy" means to unravel, to dissolve, to undo. Jesus came to undo and dissolve the enemy's efforts. The coming of Jesus was concerned with unpicking the net of evil in which the devil has been attempting to trap people into.
